Maerdy Windfarm is a permitted eight turbine windfarm at the top of the Rhondda Valleys. The project is due to be built during 2012.

Amendments to deliver up to 40% extra green electricity

Planning permission for an amended layout was granted in November 2012 that will increase the enegy from the scheme by up to 40%.

Community funds increased

With the increased energy from the amendments the community funds will be increased by 40% to £70,000 / year or a £840,000 lump sum.

Keep the business rates local !!

At present all the business rates go to central govnerment. The Westminster government have proposed that local communities should keep business rates. The business rates about £260,000 / year. Please join our campaign to get WAG to allow business rates to remain with the local community also.

Windfarm Construction

In preperation for construction, the windfarm development is now under the ownership and control of Velocita Energy Developments. Construction is anticipated to commence around the middle of 2012.

 

Climate Change

Climate change is "the greatest environmental, economic and social challenge facing the planet" : says the Welsh Assembly Government.

WAG have launched new targets for 20% of all electricity to come from onshore windfarms.
