Public Consultation

REP conducted a major public consultation 2005. The consultation was based around a website with over 250 visualisations of the windfarm from around the area. 10,000 door to door leaflets and newspaper adverts advertised the consultation. Four public meetings were also held and articles published in the local press. 1,300 visits were made to the project website.

Only 27 written comments were received, (all of which were personally replied to) indicating the low level of controversy of the scheme.

When the planning application was submitted in 2006, 14,000 leaflets, newspaper adverts and 3 public exhibtions were held.

A community benefit programme was developed alongside the windfarm. This was consulted on with 235 community groups in 2006.

The project website has been updated with all the proposal documents and with easy to access visualisations. The planinng documents will be placed by the Council in libraries. Comments on the scheme amendments are invited. The amendments are small in environmental impact and significant public comment is not anticipated.

Why?

REP have conducted extensive public consultation throughout the development of the Maerdy Windfarm.

Consultation has directed the form of the windfarm, the community benefits and kept the public aware of the proposals.
