A windfarm of 8 wind turbines is proposed on land near Maerdy coal tip, north of Maerdy and Treorchy. The project received planning permission from the Local Council in 2009. The windfarm is now undergoing detailed design and procurement. It is expected that construction will start in 2011 with generation of the first electricity in 2012. Two community funds will be established with grants decided on a one resident one vote basis by the residents of Treorchy and Maerdy.
