The site is rarely used by the public. One footpath passes through the site north to south. Due to low use this is indistinguishable in many places. There are no bridleways across the site. The site falls within the OPEN access land like many upland areas in the Rhondda, however the site is not easily accessible; with no adjacent roads and the site bounded either by forestry, river, the Maerdy coal tip or very steep slope. There is occasional driving of four wheel drive vehicles across the site, which is damaging to the ground.

The Coed Morgannwg Way, a 57km long trail, passes to the north of the site. The project would be intermittently visible for approximately 3km of the trail. The windfarm would be to the south of the trail, while views of the Brecon Beacons are in the opposite direction towards the north and so would not be interfered with by the project.

To the north of the site is the Dare Valley Country Park. The “table top” topography means the project is not visible from the vast majority of the park including the main used areas around the lakes as shown in the image below:
